What is a TFSA?
- The tax free savings account (TFSA) is a registered savings plan created in 2009 to encourage individuals to grow their savings tax free.
- Contributions to this plan are not tax deductible and do not qualify for tax reductions like.
- RRSPs. On the other hand, funds accumulated in or withdrawn from TFSAs are not taxable.
This savings plan is available to all Canadian residents aged 18 years or over who:
- Want to grow their savings tax-free;
- Want to save for major projects;
- Have used all their RRSP contribution room and still have cash to invest;
- Have unused cash from RRIF withdrawals.
